Display: Appetizers and Amuse-Bouches
Culinary Technique: harvesting

Date: 20th Century

This trap was designed to capture marine prey alive. When open, the trap lay flat on the sea floor, perhaps concealed in seaweed. When bait was disturbed, springs threw up the four triangular wings of the trap to snap shut the pyramid cage, protecting the captured crabs from attack.
